Million Girls Research Network Training Matter

Population Council Institute is excited to share the highlights from the MGRN Training Workshop held in Dibrugarh, Assam, on the 13th and 14th of December 2024. This workshop marked the beginning of a meaningful journey to build research capacities and empower young girls to create impactful, data-driven change.

This MGRN project, in collaboration with ICICI Foundation, aims to foster research skills, empower young girls to become self-sufficient in data collection activities, and prepare them effectively for fieldwork.

The training sessions, led by esteemed resource persons, introduced participants to key research concepts, including:

  • Ethical considerations in research
  • Introduction to research and data
  • Types of data and research methods (quantitative and qualitative)
  • Mapping and listing techniques
  • Ensuring data quality

Practical learning was a key focus of the workshop. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions, such as a mock exercise for quantitative research methods, mapping and listing activities using Android devices, and training in data collection through the ODK (Open Data Kit) and KoboCollect applications. These sessions provided participants with essential tools and skills for fieldwork, helping them confidently approach real-world research scenarios.

The enthusiastic participation of girls from Dibrugarh and nearby areas, supported by the local partners from Budding Flowers NGO, made this workshop a resounding success.
